Calabogie Motorsports Park presents the First Annual Calabogie Cup

Calabogie Motorsports Park is pleased to announce the Calabogie Cup race weekend on June 26-27, 2010. The weekend is a celebration of motorsport in the tradition of fun and camaraderie that makes motor racing such a great sport. With classes for Porsche Cup Cars, GT Cars, Formula Libre and a Gentlemen’s Race there is something for everyone.

In the spirit of fun racing, class distinctions are minimal and all classes are brackets so the performance rules are minimal. Safety is paramount and all cars are required to have a current logbook and 2010 annual inspection from an accredited FIA/ASN/SCCA sanctioning body. All drivers will be required to hold a valid 2010 race license from a recognized race association, with the exception of the Mustang Gentlemen’s Race which will be run under lapping day rules rather than race rules.

Every group gets practice, qualifying and a race on Saturday, and then practice and a one hour race on Sunday. In the spirit of British Touring Car, the top ten finishers on Saturday will invert for the start of the Sunday race.

There are four classes being run in the Calabogie Cup.

Classes are:

Porsche Cup Cars - all 996 and 997 Cups, with potentially the GT-1 cars mixed in

GT - all cars competing in GT classes in Canada, sub-class will be brackets ala CASC-OR

Formula Libre - all open wheel or sports racer

Gentlemen’s Race - a point-by- passing enduro using ICAR and CMP Mustang GT track cars as well as other personal cars that are prepped for lapping days. This is an HPDE event with strict passing rules so the licensing and tech requirements are relaxed to the same level as a CMP Lapping day. All drivers must either be certified to run solo at CMP or have a recommendation from their home track chief instructor.

Entrance Fees $325 before June 1st, $375 after June 1st

Rules

(Subject to change)

On Track Competition

All races with the exception of the Gentlemen’s Race will be run under the ASN/CASC-OR General Competition Rules. Drivers from other regions/associations are responsible for familiarizing themselves with the rules. Safety is paramount, please remember that.

The Gentlemen’s Race will be run under CMP Lapping rules, meaning no passing without a point by from the car ahead. Marshalls will be blue flagging, if you ignore the blue flag too many times you may be penalized. Marshalls will be trying take into account good dicing between drivers and will only blue flag cars that are obviously holding up the car behind.

However, this is intended to be a fun weekend and camaraderie is paramount, while stewards may call a driver to the tower, there is no protest process in place for this weekend, the trophy just isn’t worth that much.

Qualifying

All classes will have a 20 minute qualifying session on Saturday to determine starting order for the Saturday race. Race results from Saturday will be used to determine starting position on Sunday, however top ten finishers will invert for the start of the Sunday race (10th will start first, 1st will start 10th and so on).

Race Procedure

Mock grid will be in the west paddock, cars will enter the track behind the pace car at the exit of the west paddock which is the entry to T2.

All races are timed from the drop of the green flag OR the start of the second pace lap should the start be waved off. There will be one pace lap under a pace car with a flying start. Passing is permitted as soon as the green flag drops. The last lap board will be shown at the tower when the leader passes the start finish AND is within two minutes of the end of the session.

Refueling

There is no refuelling allowed in the hot pit lane, all cars are expected to complete the one hour without refuelling. If refuelling is necessary, the car must exit the track and refuel in the designated refuelling area in the paddock.

No Mandatory Pit Stop

There is no mandatory pit stop. Driver changes are permitted in the hot pit if desired, with the engine turned off during the driver change.
